Military history rightly possesses a powerful hold over Australians. We have been forever captured by the tragedy of Gallipoli, which sparked a legend and helped to forge our nation’s identity. But just as important to Australia’s destiny, our place in our region and understanding of who we are was victory in the Pacific. On the 75th anniversary of the end of the war in the Pacific, we should ask how many of us truly understand how that titanic struggle for survival defined Australia’s destiny and our place within our Pacific family?

The JobKeeper program and the Coronavirus Supplement have been extended for those in Mitchell under the next phase of our support for affected businesses and households.

This unprecedented economic support for local businesses and their workers is helping the Mitchell community through the COVID-19 pandemic and bolstering our economic recovery.

Under the Morrison Government’s next phase of support, the JobKeeper Payment will continue at its current level until 27 September, after which it will be extended for a further six months to 28 March 2021.

Small businesses in Mitchell can apply for a share in $9 million of grants under the Government’s Energy Efficient Communities Program.  Applications close at 5pm on Wednesday, 26 August 2020.

Up to $20,000 will be available to small businesses with an annual turnover of less than $10 million to upgrade equipment to reduce energy consumption, invest in monitoring systems to better manage energy use and conduct energy audits to investigate other opportunities for efficiency.

The Morrison Government will invest $270 billion over the next 10 years to upgrade the capability and potency of the Australian Defence Force, to keep Australians safe while protecting the country’s interests in a changing global environment.

In its 2020 Defence Strategic Update released today, the Morrison Government will signal a key change in Australia’s defence posture, as it prioritises the Indo-Pacific region.

The update provides a new plan to tackle Australia’s defence challenges while increasing capability investment across the entire ADF.
