Local competitors have shone on the national stage in the WorldSkills Australia competition, Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP said today.
Alex Hawke said WorldSkills Australia was the largest and most prestigious trade and skills competition held in Australia, with this year’s event attracting a record 514 competitors from around the country.
“Of the 155 medals presented throughout the event, local competitors took home one gold medal, one silver medal and two bronze medals,” Alex Hawke said.
Today marks the inaugural National headspace Day – a national day of awareness aimed at ensuring that every young Australian knows how to get help for mental health issues if they need it, regardless of where they live.

Alex Hawke said intervention at the early stages of a mental illness can reduce its duration and impact enormously.
Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, has used the start of Mental Health Week (9 October – 15 October) to promote community awareness about mental health issues and remind locals in the Mitchell community about the importance of the social and emotional wellbeing of themselves, their families, loved ones and communities.
Alex Hawke said it was important for all of us, whatever our background, age or circumstances, to help each other to identify mental health issues and seek support.
The Turnbull Coalition Government today confirmed it will implement its election commitment to introduce a new temporary sponsored parent visa. The temporary sponsored parent visa will allow Australians to sponsor their parents to stay in Australia for up to five years.
Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Alex Hawke today announced a series of community consultations and called for public submissions to assist the Government with the final design of the new temporary visa and the legislative changes required to implement it.
The Turnbull Government is helping Aussie businesses become exporters through a new app.
Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke said the Export Essentials app, now available for Apple and Android devices from app stores, was the first of its kind specifically targeting the export community.
“The app has been developed to help both new exporters and more established businesses,” Alex Hawke said.
“It will help Mitchell small and medium enterprises succeed exporting, which creates more jobs and drives economic growth.”
