The Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, encourages young local athletes to apply for Round 3, 2016-17 of the Local Sporting Champions program.
The Local Sporting Champions program is designed to support young people participating in state, national and international level sporting championships as an athlete, coach or official.
“The Hills district has produced some outstanding sportspeople over the years and it is important that we support the next generation of Australian sporting champions, said Alex Hawke.
Encouraging health and wellbeing and tackling the challenges faced by veterans and their families is a priority for the Australian Government, Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, said to mark Veterans’ Health Week.
Veterans’ Health Week runs from 22-30 October and this year focuses on social connection, with more than 300 events planned around the country.
“Our country owes enormous gratitude to the men and women who serve in defence of our country,” Alex Hawke said.
Young Australians in Mitchell who are passionate about science and maths now have more opportunities to learn from and compete with the best through new government funding for a range of science, technology, engineering and maths activities.
Individuals, community groups and researchers in Mitchell will be able to benefit from the Turnbull Government’s plan to support organisations to hold an event as part of National Science Week 2017, with grants of $2,000 to $20,000 available.
Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, said National Science Week will run from 12 to 20 August 2017 and will be a chance for all Australians to get involved in science.

The Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, together with Miss Ronie Quinn, Chief Executive Officer, hosted 160 local students at the Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum at Vision Valley from the 13 – 15 October 2016.
“The Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum was an amazing success with 160 students from 15 local high schools involved – the Forum is a significant opportunity for the students to be inspired and encouraged for their future potential in the lead up to their final year of school.
