Students and staff at Australian International Academy today celebrated the opening of eight new classrooms, built with the help of $800,000 in Australian Government funding.
Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, opened the new facilities on behalf of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education, Senator the Hon Scott Ryan.
An $800,000 Australian Government grant helped fund the $3,056,868 construction efforts alongside a $2,256,868 contribution from the Australian International Academy community.
Christmas is fast approaching and with more than 2,200 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel deployed overseas on operations Australians are being asked to spare a thought for our troops who won’t be able to spend Christmas with their families and friends.
Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke, said the best and most effective way to show support is to send an email message to the troops at supportthetroops@defence.gov.au.

The Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, together with Miss Ronie Quinn, Chief Executive Officer, hosted 160 local students at the Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum (MYLF) at Vision Valley from the 9th – 11th October 2014.
“The Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum was an amazing success with 160 students from 15 local high schools involved – the Forum is a highlight of the year, a significant opportunity to spend time with the future leaders in our community, said Alex Hawke.
Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, has encouraged residents of Mitchell to mark Carers Week 2014.
“Providing care to a loved one in need – whether it be due to age, disability or mental illness – is a role that many Australians will take on at some stage during their lives,” Alex Hawke said.
“Almost 2.7 million Australians fulfil a caring role. Carers Week is a great time to stop and reflect on the role carers play in our society.”
Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, today welcomed the Australian Government’s commitment to conducting a thorough environmental assessment for the proposed Western Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek.
“Badgerys Creek has been assessed and reassessed in some of the most comprehensive environmental process in our history, but the Australian Government is determined to make sure the site still stacks up, Alex Hawke said.
