The Parliament has passed the Turnbull Government’s tough new laws that will protect Mitchell consumers from excessive card surcharging, Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP said today.
The Government’s Competition and Consumer Amendment (Payment Surcharges) Bill 2015 passed the Senate this week with the ban on excessive card surcharging to take effect this year.
Card and other electronic payments facilitate billions of transactions every year. It is therefore crucial that Mitchell consumers have confidence in the system.
Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP has welcomed the launch of a new million dollar partnership between the Coalition Government and Crime Stoppers Australia to establish a national Dob in a Dealer campaign.
The Commonwealth Government is providing $1 million to fund the national Dob in a Dealer campaign to raise awareness of methamphetamine, or ice, and encourage local communities to contact Crime Stoppers to help tackle the issue of manufacturing and distribution in their local area.
The Federal Member for Mitchell, Alex Hawke MP, is encouraging local community organisations in Mitchell to submit an expression of interest for funding under the Stronger Communities Programme.
The Stronger Communities Programme, announced in this year’s Budget, will deliver $150,000 per year for two years to fund capital projects which deliver social benefits.
Expressions of Interest are being sought for the grants. Examples of projects which may be funded under the programme include:
• construction and fit-out of men’s sheds;
Federal Member for Mitchell, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, has welcomed the Australian Government’s announcement that the application deadline for Round 2 of the Safer Streets Programme has been extended by two weeks to 2pm (AEST), Wednesday 2 March 2016.
“The closing date has been extended to ensure all local government organisations and eligible incorporated not-for-profit organisations have the opportunity to support their local community by implementing new safety and crime prevention initiatives,” Alex Hawke said.
