Vale Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth The Second - 1926-2022

Australians awake today at the deeply sad news that our Queen, Elizabeth II has passed away.

Our longest serving monarch, we will mourn her and we will miss her.

With her goes the best of another age and its values; Duty, Service and Tradition.

We are grateful to have had such a devoted Monarch, who perfectly understood her constitutional role, who held ultimate executive power in check and never sought to exercise it, guaranteeing our nation’s stability and freedom.

For 70 years, Queen Elizabeth reigned as Australia’s Head of State and visited Australia 16 times. Click here for more information on the legacy the Queen has contributed to Australia.

There will be an official period of mourning and through this transition I will continue to keep you informed. Today at 5:00pm, Parliament House, Canberra, there will be a 96-gun salute by the Australian Defence Force to commemorate the life of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II.

At the earliest opportunity, in Parliament, I will be speaking on your behalf paying our community’s tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth, her reign and contribution to our nation. If anyone has any comments/stories you would like me to share about her impact in Australia, please email me at alex.hawke.mp@aph.gov.au.
