Official Opening of the 48th Parliament

Being appointed by the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, as the Shadow Minister for Industry and Innovation in the new Shadow Ministry is an honour. In this role, I have already been meeting with various industry stakeholders from diverse sectors. Supporting Australian businesses relies on good policy settings across government, not just the quantum of funds being selectively invested into pet projects.
A key focus of mine will be scrutinising Labor’s multi-billion industry funds, the so-called National Reconstruction Fund and their ‘Future Made in Australia’ agenda. Labor have funnelled billions of dollars of taxpayer money into these programs with little thought and little transparency. Last week, I noted a new report by the Auditor-General which found that Labor has been spending taxpayer money on major industrial projects without an investment strategy in place. The niche role of Manager of Opposition Business in the House of Representatives will see me coordinating the Opposition’s parliamentary tactics with respect to legislation and Question Time. Once The Speaker had been elected, I had the honour of addressing The Speaker on his election.
